What's the point of worship? We could say that we worship God to please Him. Those under the Old Covenant might include the word "appease" in their answer. The author of the book of Hebrews casually mentions another function of worship: to perfect the worshiper! If that's what's supposed to happen, then obviously an animal sacrifice can't change us on the inside - but there is an offering that can.
