Mark's Account Of Jesus Christ - Volume 2

He's Alive...So What?

The account of Jesus' resurrection in the gospel of Mark is surprisingly brief. Mark really only has four things that he wants to communicate about the resurrection. What's there for us in trailing portion of this gospel answer the question ""Jesus is alive. So what?"" And that's a fair question. If Jesus rose from the dead, what does it mean? Why is it important to us?

Signs and the End

We have trouble remembering what we had for breakfast most days. But Jesus knows the future better than we can remember the past. After all, He's already there. Jesus' prediction of the destruction of the temple prompted the disciples to ask about the rest of the future. They understood that the prediction about the temple also included the nation if Israel and that concerned them greatly. And Jesus was the one to ask, because He's the creator, outside of time.

The Authority of Jesus

When Jesus was in Jerusalem, He runs head to head with the religious authorities of the day and the clash is tremendous. Mark's gospel doesn't spend too much time in Jerusalem, but when it does, the conflict between Jesus and religionists is pictured quite sharply. Jesus had no patience for the burdensome laws nor the way that the people coming to the temple were cheated and gouged for profit.

The Day that Changed Eternity

In the life that Christ led, He did not react to the things happening to Him on the spur of the moment. Jesus knew what was happening and He reacted in a deliberate planned way. Make no mistake. What happened to Jesus in the final week, in that final night was not His victimization. Jesus remained the one in control throughout that whole ugly time. The authorities thought they were in control, but Jesus was actually making things happen in accordance with biblical prophecy.

The Resurrection

Mark's account of the resurrection of Jesus Christ is not all expansive. In fact, it's very short and cryptic. Very little of what Mark says about the resurrection is original. Originality was not Mark's objective in writing his account.

The Transfiguration

The apostle John was given a penetrating look at the future of this earth. John saw Jesus as He really was and is.

The Week That Changed The World

There is nothing about the crucifixion of Christ that should surprise us. From the many prophetic accounts of Messiah, everything that Jesus went through on that night and the next day was clearly foretold.

What Is The Sign?

Even in our day we've had a lot of conjecture about when Jesus would return to earth. The disciples of Christ were no different. They wanted to know what the future held for them. While humanists try to tell us that the world will get better and better, the evidence says otherwise. Before Jesus returns this world will get so bad, and become so violent ,that God will have to intervene so that anyone can survive.

Who Am I?

Jesus had gotten His disciples to the point He could send them out to conduct ministry just as He had done. Yet, when it was time to do a little more, they faltered. Jesus really was disappointed in the disciple's inability to grasp what He was showing them. They just didn't get it. And the really big question was just around the corner and seemed as if they didn't have a clue as to who He was or what He was about.

Who Owns The Vineyard?

When challenged by religious authorities, Jesus responded with first a question and then with a story. The authorities didn't much care for either one. The Pharisees refused to answer Jesus' pointed question. And, although most of Jesus parables just confused them, they got this one right away. But instead of humbly accepting the truth of it, they were greatly insulted by it. For Jesus' story went right to the darkness of their unbelieving hearts.
