To Clean Up The Mess

Which would you rather have: external rules, or access to the living God? Oh, you can go back to circumcision and a kosher diet and Sabbath restrictions if you want to. But under that system, the average person could not approach God - not directly. Even the priests couldn't enter His presence, except one man, once a year. The Temple itself seems to be designed to show us how unholy we are. Pastor Jim adds another entry to his Hebrews series today with Part 1 of, To Clean Up the Mess.

How Jesus' Sacrifice Saves

In Old Testament times, as today, a lot of people were on a religious hamster wheel. There's a lot of activity, but no progress. The author of Hebrews makes an ingenious argument in Chapter 10: If the animal sacrifices and the Temple rituals could really make us acceptable to God, why did the priests have to keep doing them? All that repetition doesn't make us saints; it just reminds us continually that we're still sinners! Today Pastor Jim begins a new sermon entitled, How Jesus' Sacrifice Saves.

Let Us Draw Near To God

Our greatest need...is God's greatest desire for us. A close relationship with our Creator - that's the deep human deficit that He wants to fill. In fact, you could say that He has spent His greatest Treasure on just the possibility of reestablishing a loving connection with us. In chapter 10 of the book of Hebrews the author urges us to do 3 things that will move us toward maturity in Christ. And the first one is to draw near to God. Today we'll hear Part 1 of a sermon preached around Christmastime.

The Danger Of Knowing The Truth

We discussed "drawing near" now we need to talk about "shrinking back." As we open our final sermon in this series, the author of Hebrews has a warning for us. It's possible to take God's grace for granted, and to get ourselves so completely turned around that we actually become His adversaries again. And when we disregard the blood of His Son like that, the Father takes it personally. The writer uses the words like "outrage" and "indignation." Here comes another Christmas reference as Pastor Jim speaks on, The Danger of Knowing the Truth.
